Sir Ken Robinson gives us all something to think about in regards to our educational model. I do think we need to "rethink" how we deliver education, especially for our students who may learn differently.  Take a moment to watch his Ted Talk. I think you will find it enlightening as well.

A huge thank you to our students, familites and staff who participated in our first Earth and School Pride Day!  It was a tremendous success. Over 40 people gave their time to spruce up our school.  The school looks great and I cannot wait until the flowers bloom! Southeast's Girls on the Run group created a butterfly garden.  When all is blooming check out the butterfly house to see who is visiting.

Our Mission:  ...Empower students to become self-directed learners.

When we teach childrent to have inquiring minds, to evaluate evidence, to offer an argument or opinion on a topic and to be creative in the process we "empower" them to share who they are and what they know.  This sense of autonomy engages and motivates learning and keeps them involved.  Research shows it also improves student achievement.  Check out the following websites for more information:

Our Mission Statement: The Southeast Learning Community will embrace the uniqueness of each child..

The month of April, brings awareness to autism, one of the fastest growing developmental disorders  in the world. Currently, Autism Speaks reports that autism affects 1 in  88 children and 1 in 54 boys. Boys are four times more likely than girls to have autism.

Our school social worker and school counselor do an excellent job helping students understand autism and bring awareness to our staff and students about the abilities we all have and how we are all different.

Early detection and educational intervention has shown encouraging results for children with autism. For further information please visit the website:

Thank you to all the families who came out to support our Scholastic Bookfair!  Attendance at this year's book fair was 100 more families than we had last year.  All proceeds from this bookfair will go to purchasing technology for Southeast.
